Emotional Appeal

This poster used emotional appeal using graphic imagery and powerful words to instill the idea that the war on Vietnam was immoral.
The picture shows a mass of corpses shot dead by US troops in the My Lai Massacre, horrifyingly displaying not only the bodies of men and women, but children and babies as well. There are then the words in red, which are in fact the same but with different punctuation marks that signify different meanings. The simple message is telling the viewer that during the massacre American troops were not hesitant to kill babies, as the text is taken from a quote during an interview where a soldier noted that babies were also killed in the process. The viewer (presumably American) would be thereby shocked and appalled by the idea that the soldiers that they supported in their democratic endeavors would go to such barbaric lengths, which is a clear example of emotional appeal. The citizens would undoubtedly think twice about supporting the war, if they had not been opposing it prior.
