Glittering Generality

This propaganda poster makes use of the glittering generality technique with the word “good”, thus convincing the audience to believe that the Vietnam war should be stopped.

Although the word “good” can be considered in many different ways, it still leaves a positive connotation and makes the audience believe that something “good” will actually happen. The poster portrays three soldiers coming back from war, one being severely injured. This image gives the viewers an idea of how much the soldiers are suffering, which adds weight to the urgency of bringing them back for good. On surface level, the "for good" seems to say that they should bring them back forever, as that is what the phrase "for good" means. However, the word "good" itself has a positive connotation that appeals to ideals of good things, which is an example of glittering generality. With the poster having an emphasis on the “for good”, it allows the viewers to think about all the wonderful things they can do with the people in the battle zone come back.
